Frequently Asked Questions:

What populations do you serve?

I work with adult individuals and with relationship partners.

I prioritize working with folks from under-served communities with whom I have extensive professional and/or shared life experience, including: people of color; queer people; transgender, nonbinary, and other gender-nonconforming folks; people with polyamorous or other consensually nonmonogamous relationship practices; people involved in BDSM or kink; and sex workers. But if you think we would be a good fit and you are not a member of one of these groups, please reach out and let me know how I might support you.

Please note that I do not offer family therapy or therapy for children or teens.

What is your current availability? Do you have any openings?

At the time of my writing this, I have openings for individual adult clients and some limited availability for relationship partners.

My partner(s) and I would like relationship therapy. What do you mean when you say you have limited availability for relationship therapy?

At present, I have one or two openings for relationship therapy. I take on relationship partners very selectively. I really want to focus on who I can serve best. If you would like support for your relationship, please tell me as much as you can about yourselves and the matters you are seeking support with and I will let you know if I feel like it's a good fit for us to move forward to a consultation.

What are your fees?

You can learn more about my fees here.

Do you have any lower-fee slots or sliding scale availability?

Yes. I currently have some moderately reduced fee slots available for 50 minute sessions for those with financial hardship.  If a modest reduction of fees would make therapy more accessible for you, please let me know what your circumstances are and what you need.

What hours do you keep?

My regular hours are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12pm-11pm. I also schedule clients occasionally on Mondays and Fridays.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes, I offer in-person sessions in Oakland, California. Since the Covid-19 pandemic happened, I have more concern about contagion. So, I do require that we switch to therapy by video conferencing if anyone (client or therapist) feels the least bit sick or under the weather. And there will be times when I may be away from my office but still offering therapy, in which case, we also switch to meeting remotely. I am also always happy to meet remotely by video or phone if you can't meet in person for any reason.

Do you offer remote sessions / telehealth / video therapy?

Yes. I can offer therapy by video conferencing to anyone in the state of California.

Is therapy by video actually helpful?

Yes, we are able to do powerful, meaningful, and deeply supportive work together when we meet by video.

Are you able to meet with people who are not located in or near Oakland, California?

I am happy to work remotely with people who are located anywhere in the state of California, however far that may be from my office location.

Are you able to meet with people who are not located in the state of California?

Unfortunately, no. My MFT license does not permit me to work with people who live outside of the state of California.

Are you available to provide clinical supervision (for therapists who are not currently licensed)?

No. At present, I am not available to provide clinical supervision.

Are you available to provide clinical consultation (for therapists who are licensed)?

Depending on the need, I am happy to provide short-term clinical consultation on topics I have particular experience with and knowledge of.

Can I see you for appointments that are less frequent than once a week (every other week, once a month, as needed, etc.)?

Probably not. I generally see clients on a weekly basis. Sometimes it is possible to have sessions more frequently than once a week. I do not generally see clients less frequently than once a week.

Can I just pop in for one session to get help with a specific situation?

If you are a former client I already have an established relationship with, yes. If you are a therapist looking for clinical consultation, that may be possible. If you are a prospective client looking for support for yourself or for your relationship, I will not be a good fit for your needs, because my practice is oriented to longer term work.

Can my insurance pay for therapy?

While I am not in-network with any insurance providers, many of my clients receive some reimbursement from their insurance companies to help cover the cost of therapy. If your insurance provider reimburses for therapy with an out-of-network provider, it is likely that they will reimburse you for some percentage of the cost of sessions with me. I am happy to offer you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Contact your insurance provider to find out.
